This beautiful town is the location of 3 of the most spectacular sites including:

• Horseshoe Bend
• Glen Canyon Dam
• Lake Powell

Horseshoe Bend was one of our surprisingly favorite spots, and it was a lot bigger than expected.

The park was free other than the $10 parking. The entire path was paved from the parking area to the actual canyon.

Horseshoe Bend was surrounded by miles of red dirt. No trees and very few buildings. Just miles and miles of beautiful red dirt and rock. Very surreal. Reminded me of the Lion King: “Look, Simba. Everything the light touches is our kingdom.”

I recommend arriving as early as possible to avoid crowds or arriving closer to sunset for spectacular views.

Always take a jacket as a backup and wear comfortable shoes since the path back to the parking area has a slight incline.

Many bloggers recommend Antelope Canyon, which is only 7 miles from Horseshoe Bend. We were told this canyon was closed when we travelled through the area so we didn’t get a chance to visit. A reservation is required for Antelope Canyon and is expensive (many tickets costing about $180 each).

I recommend allowing at least 1-2 hours at Horseshoe Bend to truly take in the beauty. It’s one of those places you just want to enjoy and never want to leave.

I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.

The Glen Canyon Dam is located on the Colorado River and is one of the largest dams in the United States.

You can see the gorge by both car or foot. However, I do recommend parking and just taking in the view. (Parking is free).

The view is quite spectacular.

Lake Powell was absolutely breathtaking. I just wish we had more time to visit. We literally stopped to take pictures and had to get back on the road to keep moving.

If I go back one day, I would absolutely love to take a dinner cruise or go kayaking.

But no matter how much time you have, it is definitely one of those stops you just can’t miss.

After stopping to see Lake Powell, we officially crossed into Utah and stayed in St. George.
